My family usually doesn't let me talk about this in public (neither does my worship director) but I am a Trekker. A "Trekker" is someone whose enjoyed the Star Trek universe. No, I don't go to the conventions, belong to a crew or have a house full of collectibles (though I do have a uniform I've used for CBC and costume parties). However, I have loved the series since I was a kid. I'm a Classic Fan (Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, etc.). It's a fun ride.
Needless to say, I was intrigued when they announced the new movie - especially when they said that J.J. Abrams was directing (hey that combined both Star Trek and Lost - you can't beat that combination!). Man, did Abrams deliver. I took one of my children with me (I can't mention who because she'd be embarassed if her college friends found out - oops...did I say too much?). She loved it as much as me.
Someone once asked me why I loved it. It portrays a future of hope - unlike so many dismal portrayals of a future I wouldn't want to live in. In addition, the Classic series showed a lot of respect to Christianity (I'm not vouching for the later series).
So...I'm a Trekker...it's out...please be kind to me.
Hey, check this out for a treat: Star Trek
