OTC Devotion: Fast Track Week 4, Day 2

In reading today's devotion, I worked through the life of Jacob and Psalm 22. I love Psalm 22:30-31, "Future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord. His righteous acts will be told to those not yet born. They will hear about everything He has done."

It's a great reminder to me why we keep reading and re-reading the bible to our children and teens. They need to know the stories of the people in the bible. They are our forefathers. I want my children to know who Abraham is (man of faith), Moses (great leader), David (child of courgage), Daniel (man of integrity). These stories take the truth that I believe and wrap them up into memborable stories that teach them how to live.

In truth, I want them to read the stories so that they can know we don't have to be perfect. Sometimes our children walk away with the feeling that they have to do it all right to be acceptable before God. Other times our children become disillustioned with their faith because we blow. They see what we do compared with what we say and they see hypocrisy. Thesestories of the bible record moments of imperfection. Our children learn that we stumble through life trying to do best and end up doing wrong.

Hopefully, this will encourage them. God loved Abraham even though he lied to the Pharoah about Sarah. He loved Moses even though he killed the Egyptian. He loved David despite the adultery. It doesn't justify the action. It just gives us peace knowing that faith is about a perfect God, not perfect people.
