OTC Devotion: Fast Track Week 4, Day 3

I've been studying the life of Joseph in preparation for the sermon so I focused my devotions on Psalm 73. It's an interesting Psalm to read in light of Joseph's life. He could have written it as one who suffered wondering why those who don't love God prosper.

It's easy sometimes to envy people who don't follow God and yet do fine while we suffer for doing good. We can begin to resent the fact that they seem to have all the fun. They do whatever they want and it makes no difference. Sometimes they receive the promotion, get the spot on the team or get all the attention. They can do what is wrong yet there seems no reprisal.

We forget that our true treasure is a relationship with God. "My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever." (Psalm 73:26 NLT). The value of following Christ is Christ. He is the gift and the joy that we gain. When I begin to envy those who seem to do fine (finances, health, possessions, career, etc.), I have to ask why I'm not content with Christ? Why isn't my joy complete in following Him? Why do I want more?
