OTC Devotion: Fast Track Week 5, Day 2

I love Psalm 37. It gives me peace: "The LORD makes firm the steps of those who delight in Him; though they stumble, they will not fall for the LORD upholds them with His hand." (Psalm 37:23-25 TNIV). It's the imagery of two people ascending a rocky incline. One stumbles and the other reaches out a hand to hold him up and steady him. God has done this throughout my life.

Woven throughout the Psalm is a description of the Godly life. Growing in maturity means we:
  • Seek peace
  • Invest in Scripture
  • Speak wisdom
  • Live generously
  • Act justly
  • Delight in God
  • Trust God
  • Do good
  • Wait on God to act in His time
When we live this life, He promises us: protection, provision, a future, justice, love, faithfulness, strength for life.

Last night, I was talking to Josh about moments when someone gives you qualities or characteristics of leadership. I said you should examine your life against them and ask God where you need to grow. A list like this one from the Psalms is a good tool for self examination.

For me, I'm drawn to "Delight in God". Sometimes I let the busyness of life so overtake me that I forget to slow down and enjoy God - find pleasure in who He is and what He has done. I think I'll do that while working on my projects today.
